AIRMICROFLORA OF LECTURER’S OFFICES OF MICROBIOLOGY AND BIOTECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT OF CARITAS UNIVERSITY ENUGU

Abstract

Air microflora of lecturer’s offices in Caritas University Enugu were evaluated by exposure method. Pure colony of each isolates were identified using colonial morphological characteristics, as well as biochemical reaction. Nutrient agar, blood agar and sabouraud dextrose agar were exposed for 5 minutes in various lecturer’s offices mention in chapter 3. Seven bacteria genera and seven fungal genera were isolated. The bacteria isolated includes: Micrococcus spp, Klebsiella spp, Actinomyces spp, Bacillus spp, Lactobacillus spp, Staphylococcus aureus and Sarcina maxima. The fungi isolated includes: Aspergillus terreus, Rhizopus spp, Candida spp., Aspergillus clavatus, Aspergillus niger, Botrytis spp and Aspergillus fumigatus. In conclusion, many air microflora were isolated from these offices, that means, that those offices are not conducive for people to stay as a result of that, those offices should be fumigated periodically.
