DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF ONLINE CINEMA BOOKING SYSTEM A CASE STUDY OF SILVER BIRD CINEMA CENTRE

Chapter one

1.0 Introduction

Cinema is public centres were movies are shown on wide screen for visual. This research work design and implementation on online cinema booking system is intended to create a channel were individual from divers area can have a means of booking ticket for a cinema show any were they are without the stress of coming over to the cinema house.

Any cinema has one or more rooms, and each room contains a set of seats. A room can be built and integrated in the system through a room Designer interface, managed through a web based cinema manager interface. In future releases, this system will provide an interface allowing existing cinema management systems to easily adapt to communicate with our system.

1.1 Background to the study

Silver bird cinema SEC, Abuja is one of the branches owned by Silver Bird Nigerian LTD, the business centre have its head Office at IKEJA, Lagos State and many other branch centres across the country.

1.2 Statement of the problem

Silver bird cinema is a business centre were people from different geographical location come for entertainment and for fun. The centre uses a manual means to book user for the show, were the user come by person to get his or her ticket and check the types of show that will be available for the day. Some times when the user comes to book his or her ticket might not like the show for the day thereby causing for him unnecessary expenses. The user sometime come and gets no vacancy anymore. At time the same ticket are sold to two or more users at the same time due to error in writing which at end causes conflict between the users and the management.

1.3 Objectives of the study

The objective to this research work is to design and implement computerized systems were online booking will be possible. Also the system will be use to replace the manual method of record keeping in the centre. The new system will allow users at their various geolocations to book a ticket for any day or time show without being at the centre at first. The system will remove the manual method error in selling tickets to users. The new system will allow users to view the oncoming show.

1.4 Importance/significance of the study

The target system will be able to search for movie or cinema. It will also be able to book or buy a ticket for a movie. By using the target system customer will be able to cancel the booking. The current system will be integrated with another system that takes the responsibility of secure payment system.

More to it this system will boost the centre by increasing the number of users who come for the show from more geographically location.

1.5 Scope of the study

This research work is design to cover silver bird cinema centre and all its operation in booking and selling of ticket to user over the net. Also this work is extended to give the user the ability to perform some other operation like booking and cancelling ticket, viewing of oncoming show and making payment and cancelling of payment too.

Finally this research work due is design for Silver bird Elias cinema centre can still be use by any other online business centre to improve their operation and service to customers.

1.6 limitation of the study

It is noted that whatever that have advantage will also have some disadvantage. Therefore, some of the limitation to this research work are :

Cost: cost is one of the limitation to this research work were it requires huge amount of money to put up this system with such functions, and the resources that it requires in order to run effectively

Maintenance: the new system requires regular service and maintenance were to make every necessary updates.
