ABSTRACT

This study assessed the effects of polygamy on the academic performance of students in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State. The specific objectives were to examine the reasons why people engage in polygamy, examine the benefits of polygamy to the people involved, and examine the effects of polygamy on the academic performance of students within the area of study.

The population for this study was in three sections; the polygamists who were the fathers of the students, wives from polygamous families, and students who were the products of polygamous families. From each of these areas, twenty men, twenty women and twenty students were chosen at random, making a total of sixty respondents who were interviewed through questionnaire and personal interview. Data collected was analyzed by the use of percentages and frequency distribution tables.
