TRADE UNIONISM AND ITS INFLUENCE ON MANAGEMENT POLICIES IMPLEMENTATION.

ABSTRACT

This research was conducted in order to determine the influence of trade unionism on management policies implementation with a case study of Life Breweries Plc Onitsha.

The objective of the study is determine and identifying the possible management policies that are commonly influenced by trade unions activities and to determine the various strategies which the employers should adopt to ensure smooth continuity of both the organization and the workers employment position. Also to determine the possible ways of preventing the conflicts that may arise on the organization, particularly, work situation and possible way of promoting industrial peace and harmony in the company. Relevant data were collected for this works both primary and secondary sources of data. A descriptive survey method was used for this study. The total population of the company is 200 staff out of which questionnaire was drawn from staff of the company who constituted the sample size 133. The statistical instrument used in testing the validity of the hypothesis was chi squareX2. The findings revealed that trade unions activities influence the implementation of management policies in diverse ways, such as employment policies, employee welfare policies, wages and salaries including fringe benefits. The researcher therefore recommended that the workers of the organization should be granted the freedom of exercising their common views and opinions in work situation for achievable result
